What members do at TIS

TIS is built around consistent, structured activity. Membership means showing up — for morning market briefings, weekly sessions, and events that connect the society to the wider financial community.

Weekdays · 6am – 7am

Daily Research Meetings

Members gather at The Amphitheatre every weekday morning to review overnight market activity before the trading day begins. Discussions span local and global equities, fixed income instruments, foreign exchange, and commodities — building the discipline of reading markets as a daily practice.

  • Local and global equity markets
  • Fixed income and foreign exchange
  • Commodity markets and macro analysis
  • Economic data releases and their impact

  • Cross-divisional skills workshops
  • Upcoming event briefings and planning

The Colloquium

The Colloquium is TIS's flagship annual conference — a structured day of panels, presentations, and discourse featuring industry professionals, alumni, and student researchers. It bridges the gap between academic study and professional practice, drawing attendees from across campus and beyond.

  • Industry speaker panels and fireside chats
  • Student research presentations
  • Alumni engagement and networking
  • Open discourse on current financial themes

Financial Literacy Outreach

During Financial Literacy Week, TIS members visit secondary schools and community organisations to run structured sessions on saving, budgeting, and basic investing. The programme is driven entirely by student volunteers and reflects TIS's commitment to sharing financial knowledge beyond the university gates.

  • Secondary school and community visits
  • Budgeting and saving workshops
  • Introduction to investing and financial planning
  • Hands-on sessions led by society members

Office Visits

Selected members join corporate visits to financial institutions across Lagos — gaining direct exposure to the environments where investment banking, asset management, and trading actually happen. These visits are an opportunity for networking and real-world context that goes beyond any lecture.

  • Investment banks and asset managers
  • Trading floors and research departments
  • One-on-one networking with practitioners
  • Real-world context for classroom learning

Divisional Meetings

Within each of TIS's three divisions — Equities, Fixed Income, and Macroeconomics — members meet weekly to go deeper than the society-wide curriculum allows. Sessions are led by division heads and focus on live research, sector analysis, and building investment pitches that reflect each division's mandate.

  • Equities, Fixed Income, and Macroeconomics tracks
  • Live investment pitch development and review
  • Sector-specific research and deep-dive analysis
  • Division head mentorship and peer collaboration
